The upcoming "Paying for College: How Minnesota Families Make It Happen," is part of a set of new resources aiming to help families understand how they can finance a four-year college education. Consider attending the upcoming pre-screening and launch event for a chance to preview the program, see video highlights, and take part in a conversation with education and community leaders about putting these tools to work help Minnesota families!

You're invited to the prescreening of "Paying for College: How Minnesota Families Make It Happen," on Thursday,  November 8th from 4-6pm at Travelers Foundation, Jackson Room, 383 Washington Street, Saint Paul, MN 55102.

You're Invited | When the Polls Close: What Happened and What it Means for 2013

As y'all know, Minnesota was ranked the most civically engaged state in 2009 due to our high rates of voting and volunteerism. Let's keep the tradition alive! Remember to cast your ballot and make your voice heard today. Given how tight a lot of races and amendments appear, you can be sure that your vote will count! For details on your polling place, visit the Secretary of State's Pollfinder. #GOTV

When the Polls Close: What Happened and What it Means for 2013

What Happened and What it Means for 2013

Due to a large number of retirements and redistricting, we know the 2013 Minnesota legislature will look very different. Join your colleagues to get a first look at the political makeup of the new Legislature the day after Election Day at Polls Are Closed: What Happened and What it Means for 2013 on November 7 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at Wilder Center in St. Paul.

Veteran lobbyists Tom Hanson from Winthrop & Weinstine and Kristin Beckmann from Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity will analyze the outcome of the election and predict implications for the 2013 session. The conversation will be moderated by MCN's public policy director Susie Brown. We invite your attendance and active participation in a lively discussion just hours after the closing of the polls!

Saved by hope

"Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime; therefore, we are saved by hope. Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore, we are saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore, we are saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own; therefore, we are saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness."

[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] October 2012

[#mnrising Dispatch] October 2012

With Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc on our nation's east coast and the election cycle at the pinnacle of its frenzy, the world seems to be in a state of near panic. Yet in the midst of weather and political systems that appear much bigger than we are, even in aggregate, it is clear that what we do have is our individual power and choice. We can choose to reach out to our loved ones on the Atlantic seaboard and we can choose to donate to recovery efforts. We can choose which candidates or referenda we support and we can choose to help get out the vote and make sure every voice is heard.

In 2009, Minnesota was named the most civically engaged state in the nation, due to our storied tradition of voting and volunteering at record rates. We'll make history next Tuesday, not only for ourselves and our current political context, but for the generations of Minnesotans yet to come whose lives will be impacted by how we mark our ballots and subsequently, support our communities and state. Be sure to cast your vote for our shared future, and in so
doing, demonstrate that together, we can weather whatever storms come our way.

Un/Conference 2012 Content Curation

While the Un/Conference lasts only one day, the learning and relationships carry forward into our ongoing work and ever-growing networks. In continued curation and sharing of the content from that day, we're making available the presentations and other content from speakers and sessions at the Minnesota Rising 2012 Un/Conference: Leveraging Expansive Leadership for Our Minnesota! Feel free to peruse and pass along the insights and wisdom to your networks. Also, if you haven't yet had a chance to check out images from the daylong event (tag yourself and "like" Minnesota Rising, while you're at it), you can see photos galore on our Facebook page!

Thanks, once again, to our highly talented 2012 Un/Conference planning team, industrious Network Partners, and generous sponsors, as well as to our numerous presenters, including the inspiring Solome Tibebu. To honor their contributions to creating space for connection and collaboration, we invite you, today and every day, to take part in the Minnesota Rising Cascading Conversations Tour to help in discovering our generation's shared visions and values and to simultaneously to build relationships, trust, and a shared vision for our state!
