Accepting Applications: 2026 Minnesota/Young American Leaders Program

The Minnesota Young American Leaders Program (MYALP) started in 2019 and takes place at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. The Program was launched from a partnership between the University of Minnesota's Center for Integrative Leadership, GREATER MSP’s Itasca Project, and Harvard Business School (HBS), and shares themes as well as selected faculty and content with the national Young American Leaders Program (YALP), which has been held in Boston since 2015. Both Programs focus on the US and regional competitiveness, shared prosperity, and cross-sector collaborations, and both seek to create relationships among civically focused leaders in our region and state.

 

Thus far, close to 400 Minnesota participants have participated in one of the two Programs building the connective tissue for cross-sector leadership across for-profit, non-profit, and government sectors in their communities.

 

MYALP 2026 will be welcoming cohorts from Greater Duluth, Greater Fargo-Moorhead, Greater Mankato, Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul, Greater Rochester, and Greater St. Cloud, and will be held May 17-20, 2026 at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, MN.

 

YALP 2026 will be welcoming cohorts from Minneapolis-St. Paul (as well as 13 other cities across the US), and will be held June 23-26, 2026 at Harvard Business School in Boston, MA. Please see the attached brochure for more information.

 

Nominations are now open and will remain open until October 30, 2025. Applications are now open and are due no later than November 20, 2025.

Nominations are not required. Interested individuals are welcome to apply directly and do not need to self-nominate.

On the heels of our January 25, "New Year, New Conversations with MPR News Host Tom Weber and Minnesota Rising," we're pleased to share a call for applicants to the Generation Listen founding board. See below for more details and apply by the March 1st deadline!

Attention, emerging leaders! Join MPR Generation Listen’s founding board and shape a thoughtful new initiative.

We’re calling on big thinkers, entrepreneurs, and influencers in our community who are passionate about creating a more informed and civically engaged public. If you’re an expert in your field, have a knack for community building and could help us lead, launch, and expand our program in its first year, we want you.

MPR Generation Listen is a thoughtful initiative started by millennials aspiring to connect people under 35 more deeply with Minnesota Public Radio and each other. We will provide Minnesota’s young professionals with a fun series of social, cultural, and educational events where like-minded individuals can meet and share meaningful experiences.

The deadline to apply is March 1st, 2016.

Program Elements

Once we’ve established our core group, we will create formalized commitments, roles, guidelines, and responsibilities. As we are in the startup phase of development, the framework and board structure may evolve over time.

• Monthly meetings (1-2 hours each)
• Plan, promote, and attend at least two Generation Listen events over a year

The Women Leaders Emerging program guides a cohort of six women to build a strategic plan towards their career and professional goals through a seven-month program of group coaching, development exercises, and leadership seminars. The coaching circles are particularly suited to women who are at the cusp of a new life or career chapter and have some big questions about what they want out of it, want regular and impartial feedback and support to sustain and fuel themselves and their work, and are looking to stretch and advance. Sound like you or someone you know? Consider taking a self-assessment and/or attending a free information session, which provides a $200 program discount.

We have always hosted free, accessible events, open to all, and plan to continue this model with a little help from... YOU! It takes a village to keep Break the Bubble going and we are seeking four new members to our team. 3. Get ready to plug in Each board member is asked to "run point" on at least two events per year. Running point involves being the lead person who manages and coordinates event logistics and promotion. It takes about 10 hours for each event. Training on our communication tools (website, Eventbrite, Mail Chimp, Sign Up Genius, Twitter, etc) will be provided. We are looking for people who will be committed to driving the future of Break the Bubble by coming up with new ideas and opportunities to grow. Special skills in social media coordination, communication, strategic planning are desirable but not a deal-breaker. There are quarterly board meetings. NAVIGATE MN is now accepting applications for the PODER Fellowship. Five fellows will be selected to receive leadership development training and skill building, receive supervision and mentorship on their NAVIGATE projects, and connect with other leaders in the community. Applications are due by midnight on Friday, June 12th!

PODER Fellowship 

   

NAVIGATE Poder Fellowships elevate the leadership development of young adults who have interests in organizing immigrant youth, and promote systemic change around access to higher education, jobs and legal status. 

Fellowships will be awarded to 5 young adults who have demonstrated leadership and are committed to build collective power. Priority will be given to young adults who have financial, social and legal barriers to higher education and to students who are ineligible for federal financial aid (FAFSA) because of their immigration status. Students with DACA, U Visa, Witholding of Removal or no status are strongly encouraged to apply.  

Recipients will be given the opportunity to build their leadership skills, contribute to support NAVIGATE's mission and will receive awards of $1,000 each.
