[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] June 2019

[#mnrising Dispatch] June 2019

This month’s solstice marked the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere, with Ramadan, Juneteenth and Pride celebrations recognizing how far we’ve come and yet to go in terms of ensuring equity, safety, and beloved community for all Minnesotans. Summertime is the local season for festivals, parades, (and road construction, to be sure) and coming out together to share common space and experiences: take advantage of the time and intersections to cultivate and steward the social connections that create better health for each of us as individuals and for all of us together as a vibrant and interconnected community. Wishing you and yours warmth and a deep sense of belonging to this land of 10,000 lakes and to one another!

Apply for RaiseMN Campaign Institute

Applications are now open for the next RaiseMN Campaign Institute cohort, which will begin in September! The Institute, now in its third year, is a year-long cohort offering expert fundraising coaching and peer learning to small- and medium-sized nonprofits working to build their fundraising strategy and infrastructure. Through the Institute, nonprofits work to build their overall capacity for fundraising where they have the most need—anything from thanking donors, to choosing a database, to learning how to do an in-person ask—building sustainable fundraising based on their specific needs. The deadline for application and all supporting materials is Friday, July 12 at 5:00pm. [Minnesota Rising Dispatch] May 2019

[#mnrising Dispatch] May 2019

Happy 10 years of Minnesota Rising! It was a decade ago this month that the first blog post went live on and the work began to explore this question of how to build relationships, trust, and a shared vision for Minnesota, and develop the collective capacity of the rising generation to impact Minnesota's future. We've been so pleased to host five annual Un/Conferences equipping and connecting emerging Minnesota leaders; the “Our Minnesota” Cascading Conversations Tour; the Collaborative Competence Learning Labs Series focused on failure, imagination, story, and inquiry; multiple IDEA GENERATION events based on ProAction Cafe methodology; the LOCUS network for and by people of color and indigenous (POCI) leaders; a research project in the West Central region of the state entitled Greater Minnesota Rising; and so many more convenings and initiatives. We thank and celebrate with you, our network of 1000+ members and partners, for joining in this work of continuing to ask ourselves and our generation the critical questions that guide our actions individually and collectively. Cheers to 10 years more!

2019 ConnectUP! MN Summit

With 250 attendees, ConnectUP! MN Summit is the premier ecosystem event in Minnesota that convenes investors, entrepreneurs from underestimated communities (womxn, people of color, LGBTQ+, etc.), and entrepreneur community stakeholders (philanthropists, incubators, etc.) and offers action-oriented content and collaborative networking to bridge the 180 degrees of separation between entrepreneurs from underestimated communities and local investors. ConnectUP! MN Summit also serves as connective tissue across the disjointed entrepreneur ecosystem (includes investors, banks/CDFIs, philanthropy, incubators, nonprofits, academia, faith institutions & entrepreneurs); and fill gaps highlighted in SISG’s State of the Work Report. [#mnrising Dispatch] April 2019

[#mnrising Dispatch] April 2019

In this spring season of re-birth, we see nourishing investments in our neighborhoods, soil, and people taking bloom. Students are preparing for graduation and the turn of seasons offers increasing daylight and new growth. To follow nature's course, consider applying for the FINNOVATION Fellowship, a nine-month program that supports early-stage impact entrepreneurs who have bold ideas for sustainable, systems-level change. Or testing out a new idea or partnership with a Humanities Innovation Lab grant. And to see up close and in depth our relationship with water in Minnesota, join a Nibi Walkalong the Red Lake River, Cannon River, or Pokegama Lake, as you feel called. Here's hoping that snow and rain give way to sunny days and that these April showers indeed bring May flowers!

Seeking Humanities Innovation Lab Applications

The Humanities Innovation Lab supports individuals or organizations who use humanities practices and subject matters to make small steps toward a big idea. The Lab supports experimenting, playing, learning, and growing as the essential spark for humanities ideas with public impact. This opportunity is about answering the question “What would we do if we had $2,000 and six months to try something new?” Minnesota Humanities Center is calling this a Lab to foster an exploratory environment in which you don’t have to have it all figured out. The University of Minnesota's Dance Program is currently accepting proposals for a new mural for the lobby of the Barbara Barker Center for Dance. In this 20th anniversary year of the building, program leadership has identified the need for a rejuvenation of its space. The purpose of the new, two-dimensional mural is to infuse the space with a sense of joy, energize all who enter, evoke the idea of movement, and simply inspire. Any artist is welcome to submit a proposal. Preference will be given to artists with a connection to Minnesota. [Read more.]
