[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] November 2016

[#mnrising Dispatch] November 2016

Thus concludes an historic month in our nation's history, one illustrating the profoundly distinct and disparate realities that people and communities see and experience on a daily basis. While polarization and fear of difference has currently taken center stage, what is clear is that the work ahead of us is to see and honor the humanity in one another, to act more boldly and urgently than ever before, and to deepen the connections that provide and renew our resilience, courage, and hope. See below and the sidebar for opportunities this coming month to connect with others and strengthen your resolve + resources to be the change you wish to bring about in the world.

Ignited Souls: The Spirit of Social Transformation

United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities

In the face of unprecedented social unrest, it’s time to talk about how faith and spirituality–things that often seem to divide us–can actually be among the most powerful and uniting forces on the planet. Our panel, “Ignited Souls: The Spirit of Social Transformation,” will explore how to galvanize the passion of spirituality and faith into socially transformative work that furthers the well-being of all. Whether you’re a leader, activist, ally, or simply someone who has been shocked by the divisiveness and injustice of our world and feels compelled to act, this event will help you tap into that well of inspiration to resist oppression, advocate for justice, and participate in transforming the world–in whatever way you feel called. At this event, we’ll discuss: The essence of social transformation. What we, as individuals and leaders, can do. How you can get involved. [Read more.]

Cow Tipping Press Book Release and Author Reading

Five to Ten on Hennepin

Thursday, December 1 at 11:00am - 1:00pm at New Century Theatre | Cow Tipping Press publishes writing by people with developmental disabilities (e.g. Down syndrome, autism), encouraging readers to reconsider the dynamism and assets of this rich form of human diversity. Cow Tipping Press will host their fall book release and author reading on 5 to 10 on Hennepin’s Mobile Stage, giving a dozen authors with disabilities a platform to share their distinct voices with audiences that might not otherwise engage with or think of them in this way. Our authors’ writing spans ages, genres, and content, showing both the profound diversity of this often generalized or neglected form of human difference and appealing to a wide range of audiences tastes. Presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust, Southwest Airlines, Project for Public Spaces & Jack Link’s.
