2014 Network Partner Notes | AZUL, Minnesota Zoo

The Minnesota Rising 2014 Un/Conference: The Future Is How will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10:00AM – 4:30PM at DLR Group offices in Minneapolis, MN. Hosted by and for emerging leaders, the Un/Conference will engage emerging leaders across Minnesota in an energizing day of innovative learning and dialogue, skill-building, and network-building with their peers!

Minnesota Rising is pleased to collaborate with Network Partners, emerging leader groups, in order to cross-promote our parallel efforts to provide leadership development and community-building. In our Network Partner Notes, we highlight our 2014 Un/Conference Network Partners and their events in their own words!

Get involved at mnzoo.org/AZUL

The Minnesota Zoo is so much more than an amazing wildlife destination and it’s definitely not just for kids. The AZUL community recognizes that the Minnesota Zoo goes beyond its borders to save wildlife locally and globally, and that you’re never too old to enjoy an animal encounter.

Founded in 2010, AZUL is a community of Minnesota Zoo young advocates who are passionate about saving wildlife. We engage this community through conservation, education and social events all year.

AZUL embraced the Tiger Conservation Campaign (www.tigercampaign.org) as a cause thanks to the inspiration of Dr. Tara Harris, the Minnesota Zoo’s Vice President for Conservation who also serves as the coordinator for the Tiger Species Survival Plan. Only 3,200 tigers are left in the wild, and through our continued partnership with the Tiger Conservation Campaign and Dr. Harris, friends of AZUL have raised more than $15,000 to help save this endangered species.

Conservation and education events led by AZUL have included an annual conservation talk led by world-leading zoo experts and small hands-on events like our Sunset Frog Safari with zoo biologists. Our signature winter event is Warm Up in the Wild, a beach party on the warm Tropics Trail where attendees can forget the February cold for a few hours. The AZUL community is devoted to giving back and our annual Wild Night party (held this year on May 16 at Mill City Nights) is a fantastic black-tie gala in support of tigers and the Zoo.

While most AZUL events are open to the public, members of AZUL enjoy member-only experiences at the Zoo. AZUL memberships also include discounts to AZUL events, free admission and parking to the Minnesota Zoo, and more.

Experience the Zoo in a whole new way through exclusive animal and exhibit opportunities, access to world-leading zoo experts, and exciting social events. Join us and start making an impact to save wildlife – locally and globally.

Aspiring young leaders can reach out to AZUL for volunteer opportunities or positions on our Wild Night Host Committee. AZUL will be seeking new board members in the spring.

We’re social creatures at AZUL, so follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @AZULMNZOO.

Participants in this workshop will engage in facilitated discussion, self-discovery activities, and small group conversations to help them identify their moments of obligation and explore the problems they are driven to address.

December Update from Leaders of Today & Tomorrow

On the eve of a day when we all typically get gifts, the Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT) program provides an update on their exciting news-to-date and invites you to make a gift to support their programming before year's-end. Read on for details about the LOTT mentorship program and for a glimpse of the excitement on the faces of this year's Fellows and Mentors!

News from the Leaders of Today & Tomorrow

Since our last update, we selected an amazing group of 10 fellows and 10 mentors to participate in the 2014 Leaders of Today and Tomorrow fellowship program. We met with mentors and fellows for orientation sessions last month and are excited to get to know this amazing, diverse, and brilliant group of women over the next several months.
During the orientation sessions, past mentors and fellows shared their LOTT experiences with the group.  This program has changed lives, stated simply.  Leadership voices have been found, connections made, networks expanded, new jobs started, and much personal reflection done - resulting in great action.
We also sense great chemistry among the groups already!  Mentors were networking up a storm, planning lunches together and speaking with great excitement about the upcoming program year as they gathered on Nov. 13.  The fellows' excitement could barely be contained as they introduced themselves at their orientation on Nov. 20.  Before they even left, there were already plans in the works to create a Facebook group for their cohort.
Our program year officially begins on February 1, 2014, when mentors and fellows will meet for the first time, explore their leadership strengths, commonalities and differences, and jump right into the program curriculum.
This program has such a positive impact on the lives of the fellows, the mentors, and even the advisory board.  Today we ask that you join the group of leaders, volunteers, and others invested in the good work of LOTT.
Please consider making a year-end gift to LOTT to support the fellowship program in 2014. Your gift, in any amount, goes a long way toward helping us achieve our goal of shaping future women leaders.  All donations are tax-deductible, thanks to our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor,  Minnesota Women's Consortium.  We are also happy to report that 100% of advisory board members have made not only an investment of time, but also a fiscal investment in our work.
$150 can support one fellow for one year
$75 can support two workshops for one fellow
$35 can support one workshop for one fellow
$15 can support one fellow's fee to take the StrengthsFinder assessment
To give a gift online, visit: http://wearelott.org/donate/. (Carefully enter your gift amount on the "Leaders of Today & Tomorrow LOTT" line under the Special Funds heading.)
To donate by mail, send a check payable to "The Women's Consortium of Minnesota" with "LOTT" in the memo line to the following address:
Leaders of Today and Tomorrow
550 Rice Street
St. Paul, MN 55103
Thank you in advance for your generous support of our mission.
Sincerely,
Sarah Bauer & Sally McGraw
LOTT Advisory Board Co-chairs
