You're Invited: Solar Arts Building Ribbon Cutting

Given the success of the Tap Room opening at Indeed Brewing a few weeks ago, I doubt don't that the Opening and Ribbon Cutting of its home, the Solar Arts Building, will also be met with great fanfare next week. Drop in for refreshments, tours, and to celebrate the promise of urban renewal and a #brightgreenfuture for Northeast Minneapolis!

Please join us for the celebration of a #BrightGreenFuture -  Our entire community worked with us to bring this historical piece of Northeast back to life.  Now the Solar Arts Building is yet another valuable component to the Arts District, our epicenter for the "creative class."  We certainly hope you can make it to our Ribbon Cutting Event!

Sept. 6th at 4pm
at
Solar Arts Building
711 15th Ave. NE, Minneapolis,
Minneapolis, MN  55413

A fun twist on the classic ribbon cutting ceremony, the public event will celebrate urban renewal, Northeast Minneapolis, and the Bright Green Future that lies ahead.  At the Solar Arts Building, we appreciate all the support and warmth that has come from our neighbors in the Northeast, and our brothers and sisters in the Minnesota arts community.

That is why we would like you to come celebrate not just this new space, but the promise it represents. A model for urban renewal, the Solar Arts Building shows that preservation done right can be as much about our bright future as our proud past.  Enjoy refreshments, tours, & photo opportunities, then take a solar-powered First Thursday tour of some of Minnesota's most celebrated creative professionals.  Food Truck will be available.

They're looking for a few good folks to help host and hold that space at their event tonight, "Diversity, Inclusion, and You: An Open Space Conversation." Might you be one to take part, and having done so, be part of making a difference?

You are invited to attend:

Diversity, Inclusion, and You:
An Open Space Conversation

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

"You didn't sound black on the phone!"
"You're so articulate for someone from the North side!"

When is the last time you heard one of these quotes around your office? YNPN-TC is holding an event to open up the discussion around diversity and inclusion. Come share your stories, tactics to break through barriers and prompt hard discussions at work, and local organizations devoted to doing diversity the right way! Editing ourselves

Copyright (c) 123RF Stock Photos

"A great deal of energy goes into the process of fixing and editing ourselves. We may have even come to admire in ourselves what is admired, expect what is expected, and value what is valued by others. We have changed ourselves into someone that the people who matter to us can love. Sometimes we no longer know what is true for us, in which direction our own integrity lies.

We surrender our wholeness for a variety of reasons. Among the most compelling are our ideas of what being a good person is all about.... Few of us are able to love ourselves as we are. We may have even become ashamed of our wholeness. Parts of ourselves which we may have hidden all of our lives out of shame are often the source of our healing....

Reclaiming ourselves usually means coming to recognize and accept that we have in us both sides of everything. We are capable of fear and courage, generosity and selfishness, vulnerability and strength. These things do not cancel each other out but offer us a full range of power and response to life. Life is as complex as we are. Sometimes our vulnerability is our strength, our fear develops our courage, and our woundedness is the road to our integrity. It is not an either/or world. In calling ourselves "heads" or "tails," we may never own and spend our human currency, the pure gold of which our coin is made."

U.S. Bank Plaza
220 South Sixth Street Suite 17B

What does it take to manage your professional career successfully? Why do so many others seem to be able to chart their careers so well while your career feels like it has stalled? This seminar will discuss the path to success and how to get there.
As a practicing manager in the high-tech industry, David Lum (bio below) will share his insights as a manager of technical professionals to help you understand how you can move your career forward. His seminar will also cover the specific issues that Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants have with career management challenges in the US.
To make it even more meaningful, this seminar will also focus very heavily on specific and highly practical tips and suggestions (homework!) to really get your career moving forward. There will be a lot of them, some you can do at work and some you can do after-work, with detailed explanations as to why the tips and suggestions will help you in your career. Time will be devoted to Q&A.

This presentation was presented at several NAAAP National Conventions, and at several other workshops in the Chicagoland, Seattle, Research Triangle Park, Boston, and Dallas-Ft Worth areas, and received a lot of praise for its practical nature and usefulness. This seminar is targeted for ALL professional Asians/Asian-Americans, and any technical field professional working in Corporate America.
