This month is marked by seasonal shifts, giving thanks, and recognition of the original and ongoing stewards of this land during Native Heritage Month. Mni Sóta Maḳoce, Minnesota, is home to the Dakota and Ojibwe Peoples and 11 sovereign American Indian nations. This year has been announced as the final ride of the Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride, marking the end of the annual journey from Lower Brule, SD to Reconciliation Park in Mankato, MN. Consider joining the Dakota Wokiksuye Memorial Ride or Memorial Relay Run, or contributing via GoFundMe to support the horse ride which honors ancestors and spurs reconciliation between the Dakota and Mankato community. #WeAreOnNativeLand

[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] October 2022

[#mnrising Dispatch] October 2022

Halloween, Dia De Los Muertos, Veterans Day, and the end of Daylight Savings Time this week mark a shift in how we relate to one another, acknowledge those who have come and gone, and how we are in time and space. Election Day and Give to the Max Day 2022 provide us the opportunity to consider how we want to engage with and shape the future. Prepare your vote plan by using the YWCA of Minneapolis simplified voting guide and/or through the Secretary of State's website. Keep Minnesota's storied tradition of high civic engagement strong through participating in #GTMD22 and consider making contributions to the causes and organizations you care deeply about on Thursday, November 17. And during Native American Heritage Month, recognize Minnesota's original inhabitants and the crucial history of this place during the November 9 Dakota 38 documentary screening event. As uplifted in the 100% Campaign video, "A Circle by the River: Ricardo Levins Morales," this is a time that calls for healing in our communities and of the earth.

[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] September 2022

[#mnrising Dispatch] September 2022

The start to the school year, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Fall Equinox, and Rosh Hashanah all mark new beginnings. Transitioning to a different season and to a new year provides an opportunity to ask ourselves what no longer serves and can be left behind. In this shedding and letting go, space is created to allow new rhythms, embodiment, and insights to arrive and become integrated. May it be so. "Because your future isn't bound by your past." Shanah Tovah!
