[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] February 2016

[#mnrising Dispatch] February 2016

There's no better pairing than food and new friends! This month, we were pleased to feature the "Our Minnesota" Cascading Conversations Tour at the Bagels Beyond Boundaries event hosted by the Center for Integrative Leadership with Common Grounds at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Participants paired up for conversations about building trust, relationships, and shared vision. In debrief, they shared common conversation themes of passion for community, commitment to action, safe places for discussion + debate, and the importance of family in their personal journeys. Participants expressed feeling a sense of gratitude, positivity, and pride when listened to during the one-to-one conversations. Let's remember, particularly on the eve of Super Tuesday, the value of community connectedness and the power of dialoguing with and listening deeply to one another.

Newcomer Nosh

Sunday, March 13 at 5:30pm

Newcomer Nosh is a volunteer-led effort to bring together "newcomers" to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region to share a meal, enjoy conversation, and make new friends. Events are free and supported by Make It. MSP. Friends of newcomers, boomerangs returning to the region, and all others are welcome. For our fourth Nosh of 2016 we've reserved the party room at Davanni's for up to 35 newcomers ready to start winding down winter and look forward to spring. What better way to celebrate the pending thaw than a pizza party? The event is free. We'll provide the food. You can order all the beer, wine, and soda you desire. We'll also have a setup where you'll be able to rotate seats and get to talk to a number of new friends. All we ask is that you please RSVP, as we have limited space and will be ordering enough food for all attendees. Please cancel, if you can no longer attend. This won't be your last chance to Nosh! 2016 Women's Economic Security Summit

Thursday, March 3 at 7:30am

The past year has been eye-opening for many of us as a tale of two Minnesotas has emerged; inundated with reports that Minnesota is the best state for women, we also were faced with the reality that women in Minnesota’s communities of color are struggling. How and with whom we address these critical disparities will determine the success of our work and the extent to which economic security for all women can be realized. Join us on from 7:30 A.M. to 2 P.M. Thursday, March 3 (a light breakfast and lunch will be provided) to hear state legislators, community leaders, and advocates discuss the policies we need now to break down barriers to economic equality. Reducing barriers is not just the right thing to do, it is needed to build a stronger economic foundation for all of us. [Read more.]
