As the increased daylight affords us all renewed energy and hope, we invite you to join in us a variety of exciting upcoming events and endeavors! Consider dropping in for our Spring Forward! Happy Hour this week, joining with other local women leaders as we discuss Sheryl Sandberg's highly-anticipated Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead later this month, or exploring how we can leverage failure for the benefit of our communities in the Minnesota Rising Fail Lab: Failing Into the Future slated for Saturday, May 4. Join former Minnesota State Representative, Kate Knuth, and other invited panelists to discuss Sheryl Sandberg's highly-anticipated new book, 
Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, which examines women's progress in achieving leadership roles and offers solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential. 

Part panel and part modified-book club, the conversation will explore the personal and political implications of women's leadership today. Whether you've read the book or not, you're welcome to sit at the table and share your individual perspective on this urgent and universal question!

Every biennium, our elected officials go through the super fun, uncomplicated process of determining Minnesota's budget. It starts with the governor's recommendations, and then the legislature forms its own budget to levy taxes and appropriate money to state entities and organizations doing the important work of making Minnesota a great place to live. I wanted to take a minute to reflect on my experience participating in Minnesota Rising's Cascading Conversations Tour, so far. The Cascading Conversations Tour was designed to help build trust between two people through one-on-one conversations. I have been fortunate enough to have Cascading Conversations with all kinds of people - friends, colleagues, complete strangers, acquaintances, etc., and needless to say: no two conversations are the same. Using the Minnesota Rising Blueprint as my guide, each conversation starts out the same, but that is where the similarities end. [Read more.]

Minnesota Rising has received an invitation from the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA) at the University of Minnesota to lunch with their current members and connect them to the community. We're looking for 5-10 people in the Minnesota Rising network to participate by speaking with students over the lunch hour and sharing a bit about their background and current community engagement efforts!

GAPSA is hosting the second day in a series of Advocacy Workshop Seminars for graduate, professional, and undergraduate students. These workshops aim to arm students with basic tools to advocate for social issues that concern them, either for personal reasons, or on behalf of their research or the university.
