[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] October 2022

[#mnrising Dispatch] October 2022

Halloween, Dia De Los Muertos, Veterans Day, and the end of Daylight Savings Time this week mark a shift in how we relate to one another, acknowledge those who have come and gone, and how we are in time and space. Election Day and Give to the Max Day 2022 provide us the opportunity to consider how we want to engage with and shape the future. Prepare your vote plan by using the YWCA of Minneapolis simplified voting guide and/or through the Secretary of State's website. Keep Minnesota's storied tradition of high civic engagement strong through participating in #GTMD22 and consider making contributions to the causes and organizations you care deeply about on Thursday, November 17. And during Native American Heritage Month, recognize Minnesota's original inhabitants and the crucial history of this place during the November 9 Dakota 38 documentary screening event. As uplifted in the 100% Campaign video, "A Circle by the River: Ricardo Levins Morales," this is a time that calls for healing in our communities and of the earth.

Why are we trapped in conflict, and how do we get out?

Hateful conflict permeates our politics and, too often, our private lives. It affects our ability to think clearly and consumes our time and energy. Amanda Ripley’s groundbreaking journalism and books are being taken up by citizens and legislators to chart a new way forward. In this conversation with the award-winning Krista Tippett - a collaboration between On Being and the Humphrey School’s Center for the Study of Politics and Governance - they explore why we get trapped in conflicts and how we can break the spiral. | Wednesday, November 2 |12:00pm - 1:30pm. American Indian Family Empowerment Program

The Family Empowerment Program is a grant-making project of the Tiwahe Foundation, which awards grants to individuals working to be of service to their community, connected to their culture, and to have their potential realized. Throughout its history, this program has invested in human capital - in the skills, resources, and cultural strengths that American Indian families and individuals possess that allow them to contribute to the cultural and social wellbeing of their community. Grants range from $500 to $2,500, supporting an individual or family in pursuit of professional, educational, or cultural opportunities. [Learn more.]
