February has been full! Featured in the kick-off to the WCCO series on Minnesota Millennials, hosting a powerful Story Lab: Recognizing and Valuing Diversity, and piloting public feedback to the findings of the "Our Minnesota" Cascading Conversations Tour, Minnesota Rising has been hard at work to advance our 2015 areas of work. Join us at the upcoming Sounding Board meeting on March 9 for updates and opportunities to help bring some fun projects to life. In the meantime, here's hoping March comes in like a lamb during this Year of the Sheep!

The Minnesota Rising Story Lab: Our Story, Our Future on "Recognizing and Valuing Diversity" took place on Thursday, February 5th at Hamline University Minneapolis. Participants came from a variety of sectors, including: city and state government, nonprofit organizations, business development consulting, and arts and culture. Introducing themselves, their interest in coming together to explore issues of race and privilege, and their favorite books, we generated a healthy list of reading recommendations. [Read more.]

Saint Paul to Selma

Crossing Bridges MN

A march to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic and bloody Selma marches of 1965, catalytic events that led to the passage of the U.S. Voting Rights Act will be held Sunday, March 8, 2 p.m. at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul. Open to the public, the half-mile route will cross the Cedar Street Bridge over I-94, recalling the Selma marchers who crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge en route to protest laws and practices that denied Black people the right to vote. The St. Paul march will end at Central Presbyterian followed by a program at the church beginning at approximately 3 p.m. [Read more.]

Accepting Applications: Giving Project

Headwaters Foundation

Headwaters Foundation for Justice is looking for 25 individuals to join Headwaters' first-ever Giving Project in summer 2015. The deadline is April 6. The Giving Project is an innovative new model for community building, leadership development and funding social change. It will bring together a multiracial, cross-class group of people who are passionate about social change and interested in building their skills in fundraising, grantmaking, and community building. Participants will work together to raise and give out money to organizations that build power for social change in Minnesota. [Read more.]
