Network Partner Notes 2012: Fuel Rochester

The Minnesota Rising 2012 Un/Conference: Leveraging Expansive Leadership for Our Minnesota will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 10:00AM – 4:30PM at DLR Group offices in Minneapolis, MN. Hosted by and for emerging leaders, the Un/Conference will engage emerging leaders across Minnesota in an energizing day of innovative learning and dialogue, skill-building, and network-building with their peers!

Minnesota Rising is pleased to collaborate with Network Partners, emerging leader group organizations, to help cross-promote our parallel efforts to provide leadership development and community-building. In our Network Partner Notes, we prompt and highlight our 2012 Un/Conference Network Partners in their own words!

Our Mission: To inform, network and connect aspiring community leaders to help make Rochester a better place to live, work and thrive. A community influenced by young people will attract and retain young people.

Fuel Rochester is a young professionals (YP) group that provides a place where YPs can connect with other YPs and to the community.

Fuel prepares new generations of young professionals to lead with vision and passion and to refuel Rochester’s business and social climate with new energy and initiatives.

Who has been the best speaker your group has featured at an event?

In 2012 Fuel hosted our first Young Professionals Summit. We had a variety of topics and wonderful speakers, but there was one session that had overwhelming positive feedback. Janet Dunn from Saint Mary’s University spoke about ‘Taking Charge of Your Career.’ She spoke about the varieties of a career path (upward mobility, lateral moves, projects, etc.), how to build your invisible portfolio and the highlight of her presentation for most attendees was her section on compensation and how to successfully ask for a raise. Janet offered valuable takeaways for the attendees and we look forward to offering her presentation again in the future.
