[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] April 2018

[#mnrising Dispatch] April 2018

This month marked the annual celebration of Earth Day, a global tradition honoring the beautify and sacredness of the environment and urging action to protect and steward it. Recognizing environmental justice as recycling, reducing waste, and valuing life in all its forms - flora, fauna, and people - we took inspiration by planting seeds of community and care in April. We sponsored several LOCUS leaders in an Enneagram workshop at Loyola Spirituality Center, co-hosted a "Social Our" community-building event with CAAL, and began outlining a renewal retreat in a nature setting for Minnesota Rising members in the months ahead.

Sometimes transitions build up slowly, ebbing and flowing to and fro as they emerge over time. And sometimes, like this month's historic April blizzard, they happen over the weekend. Wishing you a chance to listen to and honor your own nature and rhythms in the weeks ahead in order to welcome what's next!

Humphrey Policy Fellows

Deadline June 4

If you are a Minnesota leader seeking to gain practical skills and experience to make a greater impact, the Policy Fellows program can help you take your career and work to the next level. The Policy Fellows program is one of the country’s most respected public affairs leadership experiences for emerging and mid-career professionals. The nine-month program is unmatched in its interaction with public officials, leadership training, diversity of participants and perspectives, and opportunity to undertake important projects that benefit the wider community. Each year, approximately 35 leaders from government, business/industry, and nonprofit organizations from around the state are selected and come together as a cohort once a month and travel together to Washington, DC, for a multi-day study trip. [Read more.]

MN Health Equity Leadership Network

Applications due May 2

The MN Health Equity Leadership Network (HELN) is a new initiative of the Minnesota Department of Health, Center for Health Equity (CHE). HELN will bring together health equity leaders, organizations and institutions from across the state and across sectors to strategize, share best practices, and identify common goals to advance health equity in MN. CHE is excited to announce that we are partnering with the Bush Foundation to bring a cohort of leaders to bushCONNECT (bushCON) in October 2018. The leaders chosen to participate in bushCON will be among the first to help CHE envision what HELN will look like, with an anticipated launch date of January 2019. CHE anticipates 20 individuals will be invited to join the bushCON HELN cohort. The cohort will convene around bushCON because bushCON is meant to spark innovation, big ideas, and cross-sector, cross-network pollination. [Read more.]

Seeking Veterans' Voices Award Nominations

Deadline June 7

Now in its sixth year, the Veterans' Voices Award recognizes former and actively serving Minnesota Veterans who are making significant contributions to their communities and are exemplary humanists. These Veterans also embody the Humanities Center's mission, "to build a thoughtful, literate, and engaged society" and values: to build and strengthen relationships, recognize the power of story and danger of absence, learn from and with multiple voices and amplify community solutions for change. Drawing on the power of the humanities, the Veterans’ Voices Program and Veterans’ Voices Award honors the contributions and life experiences of Veterans in Minnesota while also aiming to bridge the civilian-Veteran divide. Nominate a deserving Veteran today! [Read more.]
