[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] September 2017

[#mnrising Dispatch] September 2017

As we in the Northern Hemisphere transition into the new, yet familiar, rhythms that fall brings, it's a ripe time for (re-)connection. In the weeks ahead, join Minnesota Rising at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits 2017 annual conference during the "Identity and Professional Development: Supporting Early-Career Professionals of Color" session and/or LOCUS at our next Family Dinner on October 4 to check in on and with one another. Whether at one of these events or another among those listed in this month's Dispatch, we hope you'll heed the calls for action, community-building, and taking steps to build the world we want to reap this harvest season.

2017 Civic Celebration

Citizens League

Rub elbows with other politically interested Minnesotans, catch up with old friends, meet new and interesting people – and have a good time doing it – at our annual Civic Celebration! Come for the social hour with complimentary bites, cash bar, and lively meet-and-greet, and stay for our program where we'll honor two civic trailblazers: Dr. Josie Johnson and Susan Kimberly. Our honorees this year have shown how an individual person can blaze a path that has ripple effects throughout the generations. We hope you can join us Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at 5:30 at the Minneapolis Event Center! " [Read more.]

Young Professional Networking Event

Ann Bancroft Foundation

The blending of giving back to the community and career advancement is a natural combination; especially here in Minnesota. The Ann Bancroft Foundation invites Twin Cities professionals ages 22-35 to explore the power of philanthropy for donors and recipients, the importance of mentor relationships and how to integrate those two components into your career adventure. We will also share how the Ann Bancroft Foundation is beginning that education early for Minnesota girls through our grant and mentorship programs. 7:30am - 9:00am at Securian Club at CHS Field on Thursday, October 12. It's Time to Talk: Forums on Race 2017

YWCA of Minneapolis

Minnesota communities struggle with some of the nation's worst racial disparities. This year's event will feature Sun Yung Shin, editor of A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota, a provocative book where 16 of Minnesota's best writers provide a range of perspectives on what it is like to live as a person of color in Minnesota. Shin will facilitate and guide a panel discussion regarding current concerns in our community with seven contributors from the book. Over 1,000 diverse leaders from business, education, arts and community service will come together on Tuesday, October 17 from 11:30am - 1:30pm to move Minnesota forward through honest conversation about race.
